Watch ID (Android · app.watchid.watch_identifier)
Last updated: 5 June 2026
The short version
Watch ID needs no account and keeps no personal profile about you. To identify a watch, the photo you choose is sent over a secure connection to Google’s AI image service, used only to recognise the watch, and is not stored by us. Price estimates are drawn from public eBay sold listings. Your saved collection and settings stay only on your device. The free version is supported by ads from Google AdMob, which uses your device’s advertising ID to show and measure ads; where the law requires it you are asked to choose first, and a one-time Watch ID Pro purchase removes all ads.

This policy explains what information the Watch ID mobile app (“Watch ID”, “we”, “us”) processes, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the app and its supporting service.
1. Information we process
Watch photos (processed, not stored). When you take or choose a photo to identify a watch, the image is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connection to our service, which forwards it to Google’s Gemini API to recognise the watch. The image is held in memory only for the moment it takes to produce a result and is not written to disk, logged, or retained on our servers. We do not use your photos for any purpose other than returning an identification to you, and we do not use them to train models. Google’s handling of API requests is governed by the Gemini API Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
Watch details for price estimates (text only). To estimate value, the app sends only text attributes of the identified watch — such as brand, model, and reference number. No photo and nothing about you is sent. Our service looks these up against public eBay sold listings and may cache the aggregate, non-personal price result for a limited time to keep the app fast.
Advertising data (free version). The free version of Watch ID shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve, cap, and measure those ads and to detect fraud, Google collects and processes a limited set of data, including your device’s advertising ID (a resettable identifier), general device information, and your IP address (from which an approximate, city-level location may be inferred). This data is collected by Google and may be shared with Google and its advertising partners to deliver and measure advertising. Ads are personalised only with your consent where consent is required (see “Ads and your choices” below); otherwise you receive non-personalised ads. We do not receive or store your advertising ID ourselves. Google’s use of this data is described in the How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services notice and the Google Privacy Policy.
Purchases. If you buy Watch ID Pro (a one-time purchase that removes ads), the transaction is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Google processes your payment; we never see or store your card or billing details. The app keeps only a small flag on your device noting that you own Pro, so ads can stay off. To restore a purchase on a new device, the app asks Google Play to confirm what you already own.
Data kept only on your device. Your saved collection (including any photos you save with it), your theme preference, your Pro entitlement flag, and a marker noting you finished onboarding are stored locally on your device only. They are never uploaded to us. You can remove the collection at any time with Settings → Your data → Clear collection, or remove everything by uninstalling the app.
What we do not collect:
- No account, name, email, phone number, or login.
- No precise (GPS) location, contacts, or microphone access.
- No advertising ID or personal data held on our servers — the advertising ID described above is collected by Google for ads, not by us.
- We do not sell your personal information. We hold no personal profile to sell.
2. Device permissions
- Camera — so you can photograph a watch to identify it.
- Photos / media — so you can choose an existing picture to identify, and save a watch image to your on-device collection.
- Internet — to reach our identification service and to load ads.
These permissions are used only for the action you take in the app. You can manage them any time in your device settings.
3. Third-party services
- Google (Gemini API) — performs the image recognition. See the Gemini API Terms and Google Privacy Policy.
- Google AdMob — serves and measures the ads in the free version, using the advertising ID as described above. See AdMob and privacy, the partner-sites notice, and Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing — processes the optional Watch ID Pro purchase. Governed by the Google Play Terms of Service.
- eBay — the source of public sold-listing price data. When you tap to view matching listings, eBay opens in your browser and is then subject to eBay’s Privacy Notice. Watch ID is not affiliated with eBay.
Watch ID is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google, eBay, or any watch manufacturer or brand.
4. Ads and your choices
You are in control of how ads work:
- Consent (EEA, UK, and Switzerland). Where required, the app shows a Google-certified consent message before ads load, so you can allow or decline personalised ads. Your choice is remembered and can change what data is used.
- Reset or limit your advertising ID. In your device’s settings (Settings → Privacy / Google → Ads on Android) you can reset the advertising ID, or delete it to opt out of personalised ads across apps.
- Google ad settings. Manage Google’s ad personalisation at My Ad Center.
- Remove ads entirely. Buy Watch ID Pro once and all ads — banner and full-screen — are turned off.
5. How long we keep things
Photos sent for identification are not retained after the request completes. Cached price results are aggregate and non-personal and expire automatically. Advertising data is handled by Google under its own retention policies, not by us. On-device data (your collection, settings, and Pro flag) persists until you clear it or uninstall the app.
6. Security
All requests between the app and our service travel over encrypted HTTPS/TLS. Because we do not store your photos or any personal data on our servers, there is no personal data at rest for us to expose.
7. International processing
Identification requests are processed by Google’s infrastructure, and ads are served and measured by Google AdMob; both may process data (including, for ads, your advertising ID and IP address) on servers located outside your country, for example in the United States. By using the app you understand that data is processed in this way for these purposes.
8. Children’s privacy
Watch ID is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the free version serves ads, we ask that the app be used by adults; if you believe a child has used the app and you have concerns, contact us using the details below.
9. Your choices and rights
Because we keep no personal data tied to your identity, there is no personal profile for us to access, correct, export, or delete. You remain in full control of the data stored on your device, which you can clear or remove at any time; you can manage advertising through the controls in “Ads and your choices” above; and you can remove ads completely with Watch ID Pro. If you have questions about this policy or your privacy, contact us using the details below and we will be glad to help.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where changes are significant, make them clear within the app. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
